Ritter re-elected chair of CWB Board of Directors
Winnipeg - The Board of Directors today re-elected Ken Ritter of
Kindersley, Saskatchewan as its Chair. Ritter will begin serving
his second term immediately.
The role of the Board Chair is to provide leadership in guiding the
Board and coordinating its activities. The Chair, who is the chief
spokesperson for the Board of Directors, works closely with the
President to foster effective relations with the communities served
by the CWB.
"I am honored to be chosen again by my fellow directors to serve as
Chair. Since being elected as directors, we have put farmers'
interests first and foremost in guiding the direction of the CWB,"
said Ritter.
Ritter operates a family farm in the Major-Superb area of West
Central Saskatchewan. As well as farming, Ken has practised law and
taught school in Canada and Australia.
Since taking office, the directors have tackled tough issues
dealing with transportation reform and pulled together with farm
groups to get the best deal for farmers. As well, steps have been
taken in providing farmers additional pricing flexibility with the
introduction of both the fixed price and fixed basis payment
options. The directors have also invited the Auditor General to
assure farmers the CWB's books are accurate and complete and
internal processes are efficient and effective.
The CWB is the world's largest farmer-controlled wheat and barley
marketer. Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, it is one of
Canada's biggest exporters and the largest net earner of foreign
currency. Marketing Prairie-grown wheat and barley to over 70
countries around the world, the CWB returns all sales revenues,
less the cost of marketing, to farmers in Western Canada.
