CWB accountability meetings to be held across Prairies

March 3, 2005

Winnipeg - Prairie farmers will have the opportunity to discuss CWB operations with their elected directors and staff at a series of corporate accountability meetings across Western Canada. The annual meetings will be held this year in 21 communities from March 7 to March 30 and enable farmers to take a closer look at the CWB's operations.

"We look forward to meeting directly with farmers in their communities," said Ken Ritter, Chair of the farmer-controlled board of directors. "Farmers can use these meetings to provide candid feedback to their directors and CWB staff, which helps the board to remain accountable."

The accountability meetings will include a review of the 2003-04 marketing year, a look at the current crop year's challenges as well as discussions on the opportunities that lie ahead. Particular attention will be paid to the new Daily Price Contract (DPC) pricing option, the corporate restructuring that the CWB undertook in 2003-04 to better serve farmers and customers, adjustment payments, U.S. trade challenges and grain transportation issues.

This year there will be three major meetings, one in each of the Prairie provinces, as well as individual director meetings in 18 communities. CWB President and CEO Adrian Measner and Ken Ritter will both participate in each of the major meetings, which will be held in Brandon, MB on March 9; Sherwood Park, AB on March 15; and Saskatoon, SK on March 16. A complete schedule of all 21 meetings is attached to this release.

The elected directors representing the various districts across Western Canada are:

District 1 Art Macklin-northwest Alberta and Peace River area
District 2 James Chatenay-west central Alberta
District 3 Larry Hill-southern Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan
District 4 Ken Ritter-east central Alberta and west central Saskatchewan
District 5 Allen Oberg-northeast Alberta and northern Saskatchewan
District 6 Ian Mcreary-central Saskatchewan
District 7 Dwayne Anderson-east central Saskatchewan
District 8 Rod Flaman-southeast Saskatchewan
District 9 Bill Nicholson-eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba
District 10 Bill Toews-south central Manitoba

Farmers can get more information or register for a meeting by phoning 1-800-275-4292, e-mailing questions@cwb.ca or visiting the CWB Web site at www.cwb.ca.

Controlled by western Canadian farmers, the CWB is the largest wheat and barley marketer in the world. As one of Canada's biggest exporters, the Winnipeg-based company sells grain to more than 70 countries and returns all sales revenue, less marketing costs, to Prairie farmers.
