What’s it take to feed 100,000 people?

We produce a lot of food in Ontario – some of the best quality food in the world. Despite this abundance all around us, thousands of families still don’t have enough to eat.

It’s easy to assume that people involved in agriculture – the people responsible for feeding the world and providing food of the highest quality standards – always have enough to eat.

World Food Day, on October 16, is a great opportunity to fill the empty plates in your community. This day commemorates the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization by the United Nations in 1945. World Food Day creates awareness about hunger and encourages people to take action.

This year, Farm Credit Canada’s Drive Away Hunger tour is province-wide in Ontario, October 10 to 16. FCC employees will drive two 100-hp tractors with 16-ft. trailers – one from Windsor, one from Ottawa – both heading for Guelph as they tour the province collecting food for the hungry. The goal is to collect over 100,000 pounds of food for rural food banks in Ontario.

FCC employees, customers, sponsors and community partners invite you to join in the journey. Cheer on the volunteers as they tour through your community. Drop off donations of food or cash at your local FCC office. Arrange your own food drive and meet us along the route.

Imagine your community without hunger this Thanksgiving – something we could truly be thankful for. Let’s take pride in our ability to come together and share the food we create with those who need it most.

Take action. Join us in the fight against hunger. Visit www.DriveAwayHunger.ca or call your local FCC office. For more information about World Food Day, visit www.fao.org.
