Alternative Dispute Resolution

This section briefly summarises the complaints that were resolved by the Canadian Human Rights Commission through alternative dispute resolution. 

The Settlement Examples are intended to provide general information on the types of complaints that can be resolved at the Commission. If parties to a complaint require advice on potential outcomes that might be appropriate to their own circumstances, they should seek independent legal advice. Because the complaint process is confidential, the Commission is unable to provide any further detail on the cases.

Each summary provides a brief description of the complainant's allegations, and the general terms of the settlement agreed upon by parties. In some cases, parties also agree to issue information on their settlement. In those cases, the information will be posted in this section.

Because mediation and conciliation are confidential, all identifying information has been removed from the summaries. It should also be noted that the complainant's allegations have not been substantiated. Settlements are entered into by the parties without prejudice, and without any admission of liability or wrongdoing.
