Online Services helps the Fedoruk's on their way

Cathy and Rod Fedoruk look like the perfect couple -- a flourishing farm north of Kamsack, a seed growing operation, a state-of-the-art seed cleaning plant and four healthy, vibrant kids. But Cathy is still occasionally bemused by the road her life has taken. "When I first moved here to teach some 25 years ago, I told everyone that I would never marry a farmer," she says with a grin.

Rod was at the opposite end of the spectrum. "I was raised on a farm," he says. "I always intended to farm."

Good thing Rod's charm overcame any of Cathy's reservations. "As we had a family and the farm started to expand, there was no question that we would both be here farming together," Cathy says.

Part of the Fedoruk's success can be attributed to their foresight. They grow a wide variety of crops, Rod is a seed grower -- and they have the seed cleaning plant, five full-time employees and several seasonal employees. They started working with FCC about three and a half years ago when they were expanding their seed cleaning plant.

"We looked at the different options and we liked the way that FCC has their loans structured and the help they gave us setting up a business plan," says Rod.

About a year and a half ago, they started using FCC's Online Services. "Craig, our Account Manager, mentioned it to us," says Cathy. "I'm not terribly computer literate but I found it easy to get set up and easy to use."

"People like us, farmers, should be looking at something like this," says Rod. "Craig knew it would have value and we're glad he suggested it."

Online Services creates efficiencies in how FCC does business while providing solutions to our customers.

"I use it primarily for checking our online accounts. I have knowledge of where our accounts stand and when our payments are coming due at my fingertips. It much easier than sorting through papers all the time," says Cathy.

Rod adds, "The FCC website has information on the weather, markets, agriculture and land values that are useful, too."

Online Services really helps farmers stay informed and on top of their business. "One of the most beneficial aspects is being able to see the interest/principle split, no calls or calculations required," says Cathy.

Now that they've mastered Online Services, the Fedoruk's have a new goal according to Rod. "We've purchased the AgExpert software and are getting it set up."

Cathy grins, "Being a farmer is an ongoing adventure. I don't have any regrets about the road I ultimately chose."
