ECBC Objectives

The mission statement focuses the Corporation on the major issues affecting the economy of Cape Breton Island and the Mulgrave area. ECBC's mission statement reads:

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) is the principal federal Government of Canada organization for economic development in Cape Breton and Mulgrave. ECBC, in partnership with all levels of government, the private sector and other community stakeholders, will use its broad and flexible powers to assist, promote and coordinate efforts that foster an environment supportive of the generation of wealth to effect sustainable job creation throughout Cape Breton Island and Mulgrave.

Strategic Activities

In this planning period, the Corporation has established seven strategic activities which relate directly to the mandate and mission established for ECBC. They include:

  • Provision of Services for the Government of Canada;
  • Community Adjustment Fund (CAF);
  • Support to Business;
  • Support to Communities;
  • Trade and Investment;
  • Advocacy; and
  • Policy and Research.

Priority Sectors

  • Tourism;
  • Knowledge-based Industry;
  • Manufacturing & Processing;
  • Oil & Gas;
  • Agriculture; and
  • Aquaculture.
