John D. Smith became Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer in February 2006. In this role he enables the development and deployment of technology solutions to support key business strategies, manages the relationships with all technology partners, leads the technology development of the electronic post and helps ensure Canada Post successfully leverages technology to solve customer problems.
He brings thirty years of experience in technology management and e-business to Canada Post. Most recently he served as Vice President of Information Technology at Cara Operations, Canada's largest integrated food services company. Prior to that, Mr. Smith spent seven years as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Sears Canada. In this role he provided leadership that helped make sears.ca Canada's most successful retail web site. He also spent over 20 years with IBM Canada Ltd. holding several increasingly responsible management positions in finance, sales and product development. In these roles he worked with clients across North America, including several major retailers and financial institutions, implementing information technology applications and network based solutions.
Mr. Smith graduated from The School of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario in London. He is a former Trustee on the Etobicoke Board of Education and was a member of the Board of the William Osler Health Centre until his move to Ottawa.
He and his wife Brenda have six children.
