What Items can't be sent as Lettermail?
You can send promotional and non-promotional items using Lettermail. However, the following items cannot be sent as Lettermail since they could damage postal equipment or postal employees:
- bottle caps
- glass
- pencils or pens
- coins
- jewelry
- liquids
- food items
- powdered material
- anything fragile and perishable
- anything that is prohibited by law or is considered to be a dangerous good
- anything that soils or harms other mail, post office equipment, or postal employees

Can I advertise with Lettermail?
Traditionally, Lettermail was only used for purposes such as mailing statements, invoices, orders and general correspondence. Today businesses recognize the benefits of advertising by mail. Do I need to speak to a Sales Representative before I do a mailing - and if so, how would I do so?
Unless you plan to mail large volumes of Lettermail, there is no need to speak to a Canada Post Sales Representative. The Canada Postal Guide can provide you with all the information you need to ensure a successful mailing. Can I advertise on the envelope?
Yes, advertising with Lettermail is permitted as long as the advertising message is within a 40mm band starting from the top of the envelope and stretching no further than 74mm away from the right-hand side since this is an area reserved exclusively for postage.
Advertising can appear anywhere above and to the left of the address or address window or label, as long as it doesn't encroach on any of the reserved areas. Advertising can also form part of a meter impression. It is important to know our specifications, so please send us an email to get a copy of our Canada Postal Standards manual before you advertise on the envelope.

Can I mail outside Canada?
Lettermail must be deposited in Canada for delivery in Canada. Please refer to our International Letter-post service if you need to mail outside of Canada.

What happens if an item exceeds the maximum size and weight for Lettermail?
If the size and/or thickness of an Item exceeds the maximum size and weight for Lettermail, the Item is rated at the appropriate parcel price.
