Basic Canoe Instuctor (BCI)
This course is designed to teach candidates the skills and knowledge
to safely organize and instruct basic flat-water tandem canoe training
at the LHQ or CSTC. Candidates will learn safety procedures, basic
canoe strokes, and manoeuvres as well as proper usage and care of
canoe equipment.
In order to complete the course, candidates must be able to swim
50m fully clothed and 100m in a bathing suit. Both swim tests may
be done with or without a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Candidates
must also show the ability to pull themselves into a canoe from
the water without assistance.
The prerequisites for this course are the successful completion
of MOC (L) or JOLC (L).

Canoe Trip Leader (CTL)
Participants on this seven-day course will acquire the skills and
knowledge to safely organize and instruct a canoe trip up to and
including class II rapids. Safety procedures, solo canoe strokes,
rescue techniques, portage drills and canoe repair are some of the
skills candidates will be expected to learn.
The course is taught in an outdoor setting. Candidates will be
staying at backcountry campsites for the tripping portion of the
course. In order to complete the course, candidates must be able
to swim 50m fully clothed and 200m in a bathing suit. Both swim
tests may be done with or without a Personal Floatation Device (PFD).
The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of
the Basic Canoe Instructor Course.

Abseiling Instructor Course (AIC)
This intensive six-day course is designed to teach candidates the
skills and knowledge to safely conduct abseil activities on a tower
or rock face. Candidates will be expected to set up tower and rock
sites as well as dispatch personnel.
This certification will allow instructors to work as a two-member
abseil team. The majority of this course is conducted outdoors.
Dress for this course is military environmental uniform. All required
equipment will be provided.
The prerequisite for this course is the completion of MOC (L) or
JOLC (L).

Cold Weather Indoctrination Course (CWIC)
This six-day course is designed to teach candidates the skills
and knowledge to safely conduct overnight winter training. Candidates
will learn the basics of cold weather survival techniques such as
introduction to the cold, clothing and equipment, first aid, hygiene
in cold weather, navigation, supervision, campsite selection and
shelters.
The majority of this course is conducted outdoors. Candidates are
required to attend in military environmental dress. Candidates will
be required to participate in a three-day cold weather exercise.
All clothing and equipment for this outdoor activity will be supplied.
The prerequisite for this course is the completion of MOC (L) or
JOLC (L).

Orienteering Instructor Course (ORIENT)
This is two-day course is designed to teach candidates the skills
needed to organize and instruct basic orienteering. Candidates will
learn orienteering philosophy, orienteering techniques, course setting,
orienteering coaching techniques and how to organize an orienteering
meet.
The course is conducted outdoors. Suitable civilian sports attire
will be required.
The prerequisite for this course is the completion of MOC (L) or
JOLC (L) courses.
