Curtis BarlowDeputy Secretary, Policy, Program and Protocol BranchBorn in Nova Scotia, Curtis Barlow holds a Bachelor of Law degree (LL.B.) from the University of Ottawa (1972) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from University College London (1976). He began his professional career in the arts in 1977 as executive director of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT). In 1986, he was appointed cultural counsellor to the United Kingdom at the Canadian High Commission in London, and director of the Canada House Cultural Centre in Trafalgar Square. In 1990, he was appointed Canadian cultural counsellor to the United States and served in that capacity until 1996. From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Barlow was executive director and CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts, and from 2001-2003, he served as director of the Arts and Cultural Industries Promotion Division at the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa. Curtis Barlow was appointed to the position of deputy secretary (Policy, Program and Protocol) to the Governor General of Canada in March 2003. |
