The private entranceThe private entrance leads to the oldest part of the residence. This wing houses the Governor General's private quarters and office space. Built at a time when candles and lanterns were used as lighting systems and water was drawn from a well, the residence has since been modernized over time. In the 1920s, Lord and Lady Willingdon (1926-1931) had work done to make the residence habitable year-round. The yellow birch flooring and the portico date from that time. The interior architecture of neoclassical style continues throughout this wing. |
