By granting honours, Canada pays tribute to outstanding people. The Governor General presents a variety of orders, decorations and medals.

The Order of Canada is the highest honour that Canada can give its citizens for exceptional achievement, merit or service.

The Order of Military Merit recognizes exceptional service and performance by members of the Canadian Forces.

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces recognizes exceptional service and performance by members of the Canadian Police Services.

Decorations for Bravery honour people who have risked their lives through acts of courage.

The Meritorious Service Decorations recognize people who have performed a deed or an activity that is a source of pride for Canadians.

The Governor General's Caring Canadian Award is given to caregivers and volunteers who provide extraordinary service to families and community groups.

Through the Canadian Heraldic Authority, the Governor General recognizes groups or individuals for public service or national importance by granting them coats of arms.
