In cities and towns from coast to coast to coast, the Governor General promotes national identity and unity, as well as Canada's cultural richness and diversity by participating in various events. The Governor General encourages Canadians to be proud of their country, and to work together to build compassionate and strong communities. The Governor General meets Canadians from all walks of life at the annual Garden Party and New Year's Levee and participates in national ceremonies such as Canada Day and Remembrance Day.
