Governor General to host luncheon for Aboriginal spiritual journey delegation at Rideau Hall

OTTAWA –– As part of events to commemorate the Year of the Veteran, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will host a luncheon at Rideau Hall for a Canadian delegation of Aboriginal people travelling to Europe later this week. The luncheon will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at 12:30 p.m. (* POOLED MEDIA)

The delegation, composed of Aboriginal elders, veterans and youth, will be at Rideau Hall to launch their spiritual journey to France and Belgium. The luncheon is an opportunity to pay tribute to First Nations, Métis and Inuit veterans for their courage, sacrifice and dedication to their country.

At the request of the Canadian Government, the Governor General will participate in a number of scheduled commemorative events in France on October 29 and 30, 2005. A detailed itinerary will be provided shortly.
