Registered Mail is a service offered to Customers who require proof of mailing and/or proof of delivery. The service provides the sender with a mailing receipt and secures the signature of the addressee, a print of the signature and the date upon delivery of the item.

U.S.A. and International Registered Mail may not be used to send:
packets (air or surface)
parcels (air or surface)
items prohibited by law or defined as dangerous goods in Canada or the destination country, and valuable items prohibited by the destination country. Go to Section H, International Destination Listing

NOTE:
Xpresspost-USA, Xpresspost-International, Expedited Parcel-USA, International Air and Surface Parcels, U.S.A. and International Small Packets and Purolator International services cannot be combined with Registered Mail.

Canada Post does not provide service standards for Registered Mail – U.S.A. and International.
Features
A feature is provided automatically as part of the basic service.
Proof of Mailing: Registered Mail provides confirmation that the item was received by Canada Post for delivery to the addressee. Canada Post will provide the sender with a date stamped official registration receipt.
Coverage for Loss or Damage: Coverage of up to $60 is included for items mailed to the U.S.A. and to other international destinations.
Canada Post shall have no liability for loss, damage or rifling of U.S.A. and International Registered Mail items containing banknotes, stocks, bonds, coupons or other securities negotiable by the bearer, lottery tickets, travellers’ cheques, coins, jewelry, manufactured and non-manufactured precious metals, precious stones, gold bullion, gold dust or cancelled or uncancelled postage stamps. Indemnity may not be claimed for expenses incurred by the sender in submitting the indemnity claim or for the fees paid for the option.

Options
An option is a service enhancement which is not provided automatically as part of the basic service.
Advice of Receipt:An Advice of Receipt provides proof of delivery (including the date and signature of the addressee) in hard copy. The Advice of Receipt can be purchased at the time of mailing only and is attached to the item and returned to the sender by the destination postal administration.
Literature for the Blind: Materials for the use of the blind mailed in Canada for delivery to the U.S.A. or any other country may be sent free of charge. Go to Section E Chapter 9, Literature for the Blind.
Labels and Documentation Required
Items must have a Registered Mail bar code label that allows the item to be tracked. Confirmation of the item’s departure from Canada can be obtained by calling 1 888 550-6333.
Customers mailing international Registered Mail items must:
ensure the items are prepared according to the applicable category of mail
seal items and have them date stamped along the seals. (A portion of the date stamp must be on the tape and the remainder on the wrapper or envelope flap.)
have a Registered Mail label placed so that the “R” appears on the addressed side (one of the bar codes must be placed near the “R” on the addressed side of the item).
Dutiable Items
Registered Letter-post items may be subject to Customs duty. Dutiable items may be sent as long as a CN22 Customs label is affixed to the item. When the declared value of a Letter-post item exceeds $500CDN, a Customs Declaration must also be completed and affixed to the wrapper. Packaging
All items must be packaged according to standard packaging for the original service used. For international mail, addresses written in pencil or composed of initials are not acceptable.
Addressing
Addresses must be legible, complete and have the correct postal code, zip code and name of the country of destination in English or French. Go to Section B Chapter 3, Addressing.
