4.Enclosures

4.1 Size and Slippage
Oversize |
more than 1.5 mm thick and And more than 25 mm shorter or narrower than the envelope |
secure it to an enclosure that is not more than 25 mm shorter and narrower than its envelope |
Short and Long |
more than 1 mm thick |
it must be no more than 15 mm shorter or narrower than its envelope |
Enclosures that Show the Address Slippage
Ensure that enclosures that show the destination address through a window:
• | Show the complete address, including the delivery mode code if applicable, at any insert position. |
• | Do not show other print to the right or below the address in the window. |
• | Do not show print in the quiet zones above and to the left of the address. |
Thickness Variation
Enclose items that are uniform in thickness, allowing for only the following variations:
Short and Long
No greater than 2 mm in thickness except in the area 15 mm from the top and sides of the envelopes.
Oversize
No greater than half of the maximum thickness.

Inflexible Enclosures
Ensure items that are mailed as short and long machineable Lettermail cannot become damaged if they are bent.
Prohibited Goods
Prohibited goods are items that may expose postal employees to danger or may soil or damage other mail or postal equipment.
Prohibited Goods List
The following items are specifically prohibited in short and long envelopes:
• | Packets of liquid or powdered materials. |

Magnets
Ensure that magnets are:
• | attached by glue or tape to an enclosure |
• | attached so that the non-magnetized (picture) side faces the address side of the envelope. |
