Governor General Michaëlle Jean is congratulated by Professor Stefania Giannini, Rector of the Università per Straniere in Perugia, Italy, upon conferral of an honorary doctorate in international relations on July 21, 2006. Governor General Jean is a former student of the university, having studied there on scholarship as part of an interuniversity exchange in the 1980s. The Governor General also delivered remarks on the theme of culture as a vehicle for bringing people and new ideas together.
