Visit to Grise Fiord

On June 17, 2005, Governor General Clarkson visited Grise Fiord, Canada’s most northern community, located 1 150 km above the Arctic Circle. Following the lighting of a qulliq (a seal oil lamp), Her Worship Liza Ningiuk, Mayor of Grise Fiord, offered welcoming remarks. Following the official welcoming ceremony, members of the community were proud to show Their Excellencies how seal skin is prepared to become clothing.
