Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, poses with Father William Allen Reynolds of St. Albert, Alberta, after presenting him with the Caring Canadian Award during a public ceremony at Edmonton City Hall on May 5, 2006. For the past 40 years, Father Reynolds has dedicated his spare time to the activities and management of the Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs of Edmonton, as well as serving with Scouts Canada for almost two decades. The Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award is presented to Canada’s “unsung heroes”, those individuals and groups whose unpaid, voluntary contributions provide extraordinary help or care to people in the community. The Governor General conducted her first regional visit to Alberta from May 4 to 6, 2006. During her three-day visit, Her Excellency focused on building dialogue and forging links with as many Albertans as possible, including the military and their spouses, school children and youth, as well as community volunteers. This was her 7th provincial visit since the beginning of her mandate.
