Official Visit to Alberta

On May 5, 2006, in Millarville, Alberta, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, address students and people from the community at Millarville Community School. She and her daughter then visited some classes as well as the school’s archeological dig. At the end of her visit, the Governor General took a group photo with students in the school’s playground. The visit to Millarville Community School was in response to 75 personal invitations that the Governor General received from students to visit their school and their community, as well as their archeological dig. In 2005, Ms. Loretta Stabler and Ms. Patti Thorne, teachers at the school, received the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History from Governor General Jean. In 2003, Millarville school teacher Pam Irving had also received this award from the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, the former governor general.
