They spoke about the challenges facing their families when their spouses are deployed. While at the base, the Governor General met with wounded soldiers, and their families and friends. She also visited the Military Family Resource Centre. The visit to the Canadian Forces Base was part of the Governor General’s first official visit to Alberta, from May 4 to 6, 2006. During her three-day visit, Her Excellency focused on building dialogue and forging links with as many Albertans as possible, including the military and their spouses, school children and youth, as well as community volunteers.
