Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, traveled to Halifax, Nova Scotia, on May 25 and 26, 2006.

On May 25, as part of National Newspaper Week, the Governor General was the keynote speaker at the annual dinner of The Canadian Press at Pier 21. She discussed the civic responsibility of journalists and the issues facing the media in today's modern world.

The following day, as commander-in-chief of Canada, the Governor General toured the submarine HMCS Windsor at Jetty NC in HMC Dockyard at the Maritime Command Atlantic. She also visited the Operational Trauma and Stress Support Centre, a new leading-edge facility, and met with families and clinical support services staff.
