Youth & Education Programmes

The National Arts Centre English Theatre is committed to the importance of arts in education. We support that commitment through programmes that both invite youth into the NAC for tours, workshops and performances; and send artists into the schools for discussions and workshops.

STUDENT CLUB
for students aged 16-22

"I love this club! A show every two months is too long a wait."
- Student Club member

Do you dream of a life on the stage? Have you always secretly thought you might be a great director? Then consider yourself at home in the English Theatre Student Club. If you’re between 16 and 22, become a club member and get to know other theatre-crazy people your age; talk about theatre with the people who spend their lives making it; meet the actors, designers, directors and other artists of the 2006-2007 theatre season up close and personal and behind-the-scenes; and see a great show.

In 2005-2006 you said you wanted more. Well, you spoke and we listened! New for the 2006-2007 season, we are offering the Student Club 8 (or you can choose 6) of the hottest offerings onstage in this country.

Student Matinées

Selected plays from the Theatre and Studio series are presented as student matinées, and are available as part of a student subscription or as single performance group sales. When a school group books a matinée, they receive a study guide and are eligible to participate in Theatre Plus! activities. Plays this year range from challenging stories of contemporary life to classic tales from past centuries that still resonate today. For group sales/subscriptions information, contact Andrée Larose at alarose@nac-cna.ca

Theatre Plus!

2006-2007 marks Peter Hinton’s first season as Artistic Director, and with him he brings a passionate commitment to educational programming. His all-Canadian season features outstanding contemporary plays that examine, either literally or in more figurative ways, the meaning and value of Art, and the role of the Artist in Society. It’s a season that poses big questions in a variety of theatrical forms: comedy, tragedy, musical; some plays have large casts, some have a cast of one; there are new plays, plays in translation and plays in revival. One thing all the work has in common, however, is that it forms part of perhaps the most exciting season of English-language theatre in Canada.
