When We Dead Awaken
By Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906)

2006 marks the anniversary of the death of Henrik Ibsen. His final play, When We Dead Awaken, reveals the influence of the fledgling symbolist movement and explores the aging playwright’s interest in themes of redemption, inspiration, and the purpose of life.

Monday, March 13, 2006
An evening of short pieces
by Samuel Beckett (1906-1989)

Samuel Beckett was born the year Ibsen died. Beckett’s plays, including the hugely important Waiting for Godot, have become a cornerstone of twentieth-century drama, giving birth to the absurdist theatre of the latter half of the century and inspiring generations of playwrights.

Monday, May 8, 2006
Look Back in Anger
By John Osborne (1929-1994)

It has been 50 years since John Osborne’s ground-breaking play Look Back in Anger first assaulted audiences with the passionate energy of its protagonist. This brilliant work spawned a new approach to drama that became known as “angry young man” theatre — come and find out why!

A subscription to the International Reading Series is only $30 / $15 Students (taxes included). Phone the NAC Subscription Office today at (613) 947-7000, ext. 620, to reserve your seat for these three superb readings!
