A military crew comes to
the aid of an injured trucker involved in a head-on collision
near Berens River, Manitoba. The crew (behind stretcher) from
left to right: MCpl Dave Lazarowich, SAR Tech; Capt Dawn Wojtowicz
Flight Nurse; MCpl Darcy St.Laurent, SAR Tech, and MCpl Andrew
Howlett, Medical Assistant. Sgt Roger Moroni (background) was
part of the SAR crew from 17 Wing, Winnipeg, on the Medevac flight
sent to retrieve the injured trucker and the SAR Techs.

Canadian Forces Search and
Rescue Technician Cpl Jason MacKinnon and Traffic Technician and
Loadmaster of the flight, MCpl Murray Downing (left and right
respectively) prepare to drop a simulated pump from the lowered

Canadian Forces Base, 14 Wing, Greenwood, Nova Scotia to a simulated
boat in distress in the waters of the North Atlantic during a
SAR training mission. Cpl. MacKinnon, originally of Inverness,
Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and a thirteen-year veteran of the Canadian
Forces with 68 jumps to his record was employed as a Weapons Technician
(Land) until being accepted as a SAR Tech one year ago when he
began flying missions with 413 Sqn. MCpl. Downing hails from Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia and has been a member of the Canadian Forces for eighteen
years including his last two years with 413 Sqn.

Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Technicians
Master Corporal Steve Rutt and Sergeant Brian Weir (left and right
respectively) use a SAR door on a CC-130 Hercules Aircraft of
413 SAR Squadron from Canadian Forces Base, 14 Wing, Greenwood,
Nova Scotia to visually inspect the waters of the North Atlantic
during a SAR training mission in order to assess the best possible
fashion in which to drop emergency supplies to a simulated boat
in distresss. MCpl. Rutt, originally of Mill Cove, Nova Scotia
and a ten-year veteran of the Canadian Forces with 85 jumps to
his record was employed as a Medical Assistant until being accepted
as a SAR Tech two years ago when he began flying missions with
413 Sqn. Sgt. Weir hails from Barrie, Ontario and has been a member
of the Canadian Forces for twenty years including his previous
employment as an Airborne Rigger and his last eleven years as
a SAR Tech. He has now spent five years doing SAR missions with
413 Sqn. and has a total of over 250 jumps to his record.

Technician Private Tim Johnston of 14 Wing Air Maintenance Squadron
at Canadian Forces Base, 14 Wing, Greenwood, Nova Scotia applies
a plastic-rubber compound sealant to the heat exchanger air inlet
duct of a CP-140 Aurora Maritime Patrol Aircraft. Pte. Johnston,
originally from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia is a newly trained member
of 14 AMS having recently completed his first year of service
with the Canadian Forces.

Structures Technician Corporal Abdalla El-Naggar of 14 Wing Air
Maintenance Squadron at Canadian Forces Base, 14 Wing, Greenwood,
Nova Scotia reupholsters the seat covers of a CP-140 Aurora Maritime
Patrol Aircraft. Cpl. El-Naggar, originally from Truro, Nova Scotia
and a sixteen-year veteran of the Canadian Forces, including his
previous employment as a Combat Engineer, has spent his last eight
years employed in his current trade.

April 2001 Twin Otter pilot Captain Ian James of 440 Sqn. in
Yellowknife, NWT heats up the cockpit of his Aircraft with the help
of a generator borrowed from First Air, a commercial airline serving
the communities of the Far North. To be able to work in the cabin,
the temperature must be at least -15 degrees celsius while in Kugluktuk,
Nunavuk.
