CC-150 Polaris
437 Transport Squadron
is currently equipped with five CC-150 Polaris
(A-310 Airbus) Aircraft, a familiar sight not only in the skies around
Trenton, but also across Canada and around the world. The Polaris replaced
the aging Boeing 707 in April 1997.
While the Polaris operates in an all-passenger, freighter or combi configuration,
the size of its cargo door prevents it from carrying the outsized loads
of the CC-130 Hercules.
The fleet's primary role is long-range transport
of personnel and equipment, up to 194 passengers or 32,000 kg of cargo.
Over the years, 8 Wing Polaris crews have participated in operations supporting
Canadian Forces, NATO and numerous United Nations and Red Cross initiatives.
The Squadron's fifth Polaris is configured as a VIP
transport. 437 Squadron has an excellent reputation transporting
high ranking government officials and foreign dignitaries, including members
of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister, the Governor General around the
world.
