JX212 was one of 12 Catalina Mk. IVAs
on strength with the RCAF from 8 May, 1943 to 18 December, 1946
and served with 3 Bomber Reconnaisance Operational Training Unit
at Patricia Bay, British Columbia. JX212 is in actuality a British
military serial indicating that this is an example of an Aircraft
(in the case of the Catalina the entire fleet of 30 on Canadian
strength wore British serials) purchased by Britain but used by
and on strength with the RCAF. The 97 Mk. IVAs received by the RAF
under lend-lease from the United States had anti-submarine and anti-shipping
radar and were used by Coastal Command.
