The "Raymor" was the Aircraft in which Major F.P. Raynam and Major C.W.F. Morgan hoped to be the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a heavier-than-air machine. All three arrived from England by ship at St. John's, Newfoundland on 11 April, 1919 and they twice crashed on take-off (18 May and 17 July) while making their attempted flight. The "Raymor" was essentially a Martinsyde Type A modified to a trans-atlantic machine by being fitted with petrol tanks up to the limit of the machine's carrying capacity. As a commercial machine, with fuel for seven hours' flight, almost half (2,000 pounds) of the total loaded weight of the machine (4,600 pounds) was given over to cargo capacity. The photo displays the "Raymor" undergoing fuelling operations prior to flight.
