Aeroplanes Voisin advertised itself as "The oldest aeroplane firm in the world, founded by the brothers Voisin, in 1905.", and Jane's Historical Aircraft calls Voisin's "The first European aeroplanes to fly with any real success." The Voisin Triplane went from a Twin-engine (tractor) configuration in 1915 to a Four-engined configuration (paired tractor/pusher) to a Three-engined version pictured here. Note the upper hull, which in the Four-engined version contained a gun emplacement just aft of the trailing edge of the upper wing, and the unique tail with an inverted triangular sail depending from the upper hull.
