Recent Graduates of NFTC

Lieutenant Mike York

Lieutenant Mike York of Port Elgin, Ontario was presented with his military pilot wings during graduation ceremonies held at 15 Wing: McEwen Airfield Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Friday, 9 June 2006 following completion of Phase III of the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program.

An avid hockey player, he moved away from home at the age of 15 to play junior hockey in London, Ontario. After high school Lieutenant York attended the University of Windsor, graduating with a Bachelorate of Applied Science in Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

He joined the Canadian Forces as a Direct Entry Officer in 2003 after being accepted for pilot training and upon arrival in Moose Jaw  learned to fly both the CT-156 Harvard II turbo prop and CT-155 Hawk jet aircraft.

Lieutenant York is Course 0502’s recipient of the City of Moose Jaw Trophy for achieving the highest-flying test results of any student on his course and has been posted to 419 Squadron based at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta, where he will continue training prior to flying the CF-18 Hornet.
