B.C. Medical Services Plan
The Medical Services Plan of British Columbia allows that all of a serviceperson’s dependants taking up residence in British Columbia are eligible for benefits the first day of the third month following arrival in the province.  You may register by completing an application form when reporting in accompanied, or when dependents arrive. A brochure is available on request at the WOR. The Medical Services Plan of British Columbia requires proof of dependant status to validate eligibility for coverage.  Therefore, personnel who require Medical Services Plan of British Columbia coverage for their dependants must be in possession of one of the following when reporting to the WOR: (a) Birth certificate, (b) Baptismal certificate, © Citizenship certificate, (d) Passport, (e) Immigration documentation, or (f) Evidence of previous registration in the BC Medical Services Plan.

Registration of Automobiles
Base Decal: Each POMV must display a valid vehicle permit issued by the Military Police in the form of a Base decal before the vehicle may be operated on the Base.  To obtain a Base decal you must possess a BC Drivers License, Vehicle Registration and proof of insurance.  Temporary Sticker: Providing that the vehicle is fully insured, a temporary sticker will be issued to allow a POMV to be registered in British Columbia.

Day Pass: Vehicles entering the Base on a single visit will be issued a Day Pass, following proof of insurance liability.
Licensing: Incoming personnel must register vehicles within 30 days of taking up residence in B.C. Registrations may be acquired at any ICBC or BCAA location.

Driver’s License: A Provincial Driver’s License must be obtained within 90 days of taking up residence.  Licenses must be acquired at the BC Access Centre, 2500 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay. The province of BC requires two pieces of identification, one of which will be an original Birth Certificate, to receive/transfer a driver’s license. Note that individuals born in the province of Quebec must have a birth certificate issued by the provincial authority subsequent to 1994. Birth/ Baptismal records from local diocese are not acceptable. Additionally, should your surname have changed as a result of marriage and differ from the name on your Birth Certificate, an original copy of your marriage certificate will be requested. Drivers Licenses, other than graduated licenses, are issued for a 5-year period.
Insurance: Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC) offers graduated discounts on car insurance premiums based on the number of claim-free years of driving. To benefit from this provision, new arrivals from out of province will require a letter from the previous insurance provider attesting to their claim-free driving record. To obtain the maximum 40% discount, records are required for the past 8 consecutive years.
