Colonel G.C.P. Matte, CD
Colonel
Matte joined the Militia as a Private in 1980. Accepted into the Regular
Officer Training Program in 1981, he undertook four years of studies
at RRMC in Victoria. He graduated in 1985 with a BSc degree and was awarded
the Governor General's Gold Medal.
Awarded his pilot wings the following year, Colonel Matte proceeded
to CFB Cold Lake where he undertook basic fighter pilot training on the
CF-5, and advanced training on the CF-18, after which he was posted to
433 ETAC in Bagotville.
Following a staff tour with 3 Wing Operations he was promoted to Major
and returned to 433 ETAC for a second flying tour. Later in 1995, Colonel
Matte was sent on a UN tour as a Forward Air Controller in the Balkans.
Upon graduation from Staff College in 1997, he was posted to NDHQ into
the position of Staff Officer to the DCDS. Colonel Matte was appointed
CO of 433 ETAC in July 1998, and remained in this position until July
2001. During the same period, he completed two tours in Op ECHO, first
as the DetCO and later as the Comd of Task Force Aviano.
In July 2001 Colonel Matte was posted back to NDHQ into the VCDS Group,
and the following year into ADM(HR-Mil) as Director Military Human
Resource Requirements. Prior to his appointment as the WComd of 4 Wing
Cold Lake,
he was posted to CFC Toronto for a year of studies.
Colonel Matte is a FWIC graduate with over 2000 flying hours on the
CF-18. He is a graduate of both the AMSC and NSSC, and has a Masters
Degree from RMC.
