Situated in the Lakeland Region of Northeastern Alberta, Cold Lake is home to a population of nearly 12,000 and all the infrastructure that requires, including a health centre and clinics, three public libraries, 19 churches of various denominations and three school systems and private schools.

Students have the opportunity to be a part of the Public or Separate school systems, where they can learn in English or French Immersion. They can also attend a local Francophone school or one of the private schools that service Cold Lake and the surrounding area.

The Cold Lake Health Centre serves the communities of Cold Lake and parts of northwest Saskatchewan and northeast Alberta. The total population of the service area is approximately 30,000 people. At present, there are 29 acute and 30 long term beds open in the hospital. There is also a "Snoezelen Room" for therpeutic use for children and adults! There are also a number of general practitioners, whose clinics are located in the Health Centre.

The Grand Centre Health Unit provides Community Health Services for Cold Lake and surrounding areas. This includes Home Care Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy; Public Health Nursing; Tobacco Reduction; Environmental Health; Speech Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy services.
