Defence Minister to open new complex

22 WING/CFB NORTH BAY, Ont. – Media are invited to attend the Sergeant David L. Pitcher building dedication ceremony on Thursday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. The Honourable Gordon O'Connor, Minister of National Defence, will officiate. Other speakers include Major-General Charlie Bouchard, Commander 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian NORAD Region; Colonel Rick Pitre, Wing/Base Commander 22 Wing/CFB North Bay; and Major Robert Pitcher, David’s brother.

The building will be dedicated in honour and remembrance of Sergeant David Lindsay Pitcher who is the only air defender to lose his life in the line of duty. Sergeant Pitcher was a crewmember aboard the 962d Airborne Air Control Squadron (AACS) E-3, Yukla 27, which crashed in Elmendorf, Alaska on September 22, 1995. The 962d AACS will conduct a flypast during the ceremony to help commemorate the event. CF-18 Hornets and a CC-130T Hercules will also conduct flypasts during the ceremony.
