Back to School. Back to the Theatre! NAC English Theatre STUDENT CLUB expands to meet increasing demand.
September 19, 2006 -
Ottawa -- The National Arts Centre English Theatre Student Club was created to provide students between the ages of 16 and 22 who are passionate about theatre with an opportunity to learn more about the process of theatre-making, to make new friends, and to experience a one-of-a-kind “behind-the-scene” experience at the NAC. Inaugurated in the 2005-2006 season, the club has been such a tremendous success, that we are delighted to announce expanded programming in 2006-2007. New for 2006-2007 members of the club will attend eight performances in the NAC English Theatre Theatre5 and Studio4 series.
Student Club evenings begin with a presentation given by a director, playwright, or scenic designer who worked on the production. (Each meeting will have a different focus allowing students to learn about many facets of theatre). The presentations are followed by a pizza supper, after which students enjoy seeing a play. After Studio performances, students have a chance to interact with the actors during an exclusive talkback with the cast. New this season, following performances in the theatre, students are invited to attend the opening night party held at Ottawa’s luxurious bistro the Metropolitain Brasserie.
A subscription to the Student Club, which includes eight performances, pizza suppers, pre-performance chats and exclusive talkbacks with the actors, is $185; students can also select 6 plays for $145. The Student Club is currently accepting new members. Subscriptions can be obtained by phoning (613) 947-7000 ext. 620.
The first Student Club get together of the season will take place on Friday, September 22 at 6pm, the opening night of the world premiere production of Allen Cole’s jazz thriller The Wrong Son. This production is a Hitchcock-style musical murder mystery starring some of Canada’s finest musical performers (Mamma Mia, Urinetown) and featuring Toronto’s acclaimed Arraymusic Ensemble live on stage. Peter Hinton, artistic director of English Theatre will welcome students to the club and talk about his experience directing The Wrong Son.
