Sarah Stanley joins the Magnetic North Theatre Festival as Festival Associate and Symposium Coordinator

Ottawa -- Mary Vingoe, Artistic Director of the Magnetic
North Theatre Festival is excited to announce that Sarah Stanley,
Associate Director for Factory Theatre, Co-Artistic Director of Die
in Debt Theatre and former Artistic Director of Buddies in Bad Times
Theatre in Toronto, is joining the new, national festival of
English-Language Canadian Theatre as Festival Associate and Symposium
Coordinator.
"Sarah is hugely respected in the Canadian Theatre community.
She's been involved with so many important theatres, and with
developing new work and new artists across the country. She's a
great and welcome asset to The Magnetic North Theatre Festival, and
I'm thrilled to have her experienced voice on board. In
addition, it's really encouraging to know that Sarah will be
taking the helm of 'Magnetic Encounters,' the symposium
accompanying the Festival - I know it's in good hands!"

The Magnetic North Theatre Festival will run June 11-21, 2003 at
the National Arts Centre and the Great Canadian Theatre Company in
Ottawa.
Biography: Sarah Stanley
Sarah is an Associate Director for Factory Theatre in Toronto and
co-Artistic Director of Die In Debt Theatre. From 1997-99 Sarah was
the Artistic Director of Buddies In Bad Times Theatre in Toronto.
Sarah co-founded The Baby Grand Theatre in Kingston, Ontario and was
its first Artistic Director. She was also a member of Nightwood
Theatre's Artistic Advisory Panel for three years. She has been
nominated for three Dora Mavor Moore directing awards. Her company's
production of Oedipus also won a Dora for best production. Sarah has
directed works that have been nominated for a Chalmers, Governor
General and Jessie Richardson Award. Sarah was the head instructor of
The Tarragon Theatre's youth training program for three years, and a
resident instructor with The Joseph Workman Theatre Project. Sarah
has acted as one of two resident dramaturges for the last two of
PARC's Moveable Feasts. She has taught and guested with Theatre
Ontario, Humber College, Equity Showcase, University of Waterloo,
Queen's University, York University and The Vancouver Film School.
She has adjudicated a number of theatre festivals (including Sears
Drama Festival, The Irish Players International Festival and
Summerworks) and sat on juries for the OAC, MAC and the Canada
Council. Sarah was the first recipient of a full scholarship to The
Vancouver Film School. She is presently teaching Directing and Acting
at NTS and preparing for Mitch Miyagawa's The Plum Tree at ATP
in January 2003. Sarah just completed a dramaturg in residency at
Playwrights' Workshop Montreal and teaching a directing intensive at
The Centre for Indigenous Theatre. Sarah was on the PACT negotiating
team for the last Equity Pact agreement and she is a member of CAEA
and ACTRA and LMDA
