Rick Miller's MacHomer -- The Simpsons Do Macbeth added to the NAC English Theatre Season presented by Robert Friedman in association with Wyrd Productions

July 11, 2003 -

"A breakneck one-man tour-de force… Macbeth has never been so funny!" The Mail on Sunday, London

"Both hilarious and awe-inspiring..." The Independent, London

Ottawa -- The NAC English Theatre is "D'oh-lighted" to welcome Rick Miller and his inimitable one-man show MacHomer: The Simpsons Do Macbeth to the NAC for three nights only as an NAC English Theatre Special Presentation. MacHomer will run in the NAC Theatre February 5,6 and 7 at 19:30. In addition there will be three school matinee performances on February 4-6. English Theatre subscribers have advance purchase priority as of now. Tickets will go on sale to the General Public as of Tuesday, October 14.

This hugely successful one-man show, written and performed by Montreal actor Rick Miller, has been winning rave reviews from critics and audiences around the world. A brilliantly conceived, superbly executed romp through Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy with Miller interpreting all the characters through the anarchical lens of television's superheros of irreverence, The Simpsons.

A gifted mimic, Miller performs all the roles (over 50 characters), including Homer Simpson as MacHomer, and the tower-topped Marge as Lady MacHomer. His virtuosity is stunning and hugely effective, giving Shakespeare a fresh interpretation that is widely appealing and hilarious. As Miller himself puts it "it's one dysfunctional family being cast as another."

Miller first conceived MacHomer when he was playing a minor role in a production of Macbeth. With a little too much time on his hands, Miller, a Simpsons fan, began to parody Shakespeare's characters to entertain his fellow actors. His take-off was so successful, that a new performance was born.

MacHomer is directed by Sean Lynch, with Lighting Design & Live Performance photographs by Beth Kates; Costumes by Veronik Avery; Photography by Michael Cooper and Graphics by Craig Francis Design. For more information on MacHomer visit www.machomer.com or www.rfpresents.com.
