Back by Popular Demand! -- Portrait of an Unidentified Man written and Performed by Pierre Brault -- Directed by Brian Quirt

February 24, 2005 -

I loved it, I loved it.  This is a theatrical feat from every point of view.
Alvina Ruprecht, CBC Radio Ottawa Morning

Pierre Brault is by turns charming, mischievous, bombastic, amusing, earnest, touching…I’ve run out of adjectives.  [He] is to be congratulated.
Connie Meng, North Country Public Radio

Portrait of an Unidentified Man is the must-see production of the Ottawa theatre season…This is really the performance of the year.
Tom McSorley, CBC Radio All in a Day

Ottawa -- We’re bringing it back.  The sold-out, smash-hit runaway success of the 2004-2005 season, Pierre Brault’s brilliant  Portrait of an Unidentified Man will return to the NAC Studio, July 7-23 (Preview performances July 7,8,9 at 20:00; Opening night, July 12 at 20:00; Saturday matinees July 16 and 23 at 14:00) for an exclusive summer run.  Demand for tickets has been so overwhelming, that the NAC English Theatre, in conjunction with Sleeping Dog Theatre, decided to revive the popular one-man show to allow more people to find out what has the critics and audiences raving with delight.

Hungarian artist, Elmyr de Hory, turned the art world on its ear with his brilliant forgeries in the style of some of the greatest artists of the twentieth-century.   Pierre Brault’s remarkable performance playing de Hory and over 20 of his contemporaries in the world of arts and entertainment, earned the talented performer a spontaneous and extended standing ovation on opening night.  The applause has not stopped since then during this world premiere run.

Portrait of an Unidentified Man is directed by Brian Quirt, Artistic Director of Toronto’s Nightswimming Theatre.  Martin Conboy is the set and lighting designer, and Justin Haynes is the composer and sound designer for the production.  Judi Pearl is Stage Manager and Producer for Sleeping Dog Theatre.  Dana Uzarevic is Apprentice Stage Manager.
