DND Awards Sea King Maintenance and Support Contract

NR–05.041 - June 2, 2005

OTTAWA – A $19.4-million contract has been awarded to ACROHELIPRO Global Services Inc. of Richmond, British Columbia for the maintenance and support of the CH-124 Sea King gas turbine engines.

“This contract will ensure that the Sea King continues to make significant contributions to maritime operations as we await delivery of the new helicopter fleet,” said Defence Minister Bill Graham. “As stated in the new defence policy, the Government is committed to providing the Canadian Forces with new maritime helicopters.”

“The Sea King continues to provide invaluable support to deployed naval operations, maritime surveillance, and search and rescue operations,” said General Rick Hillier, Chief of Defence Staff. “This contract will provide our highly skilled aircrews and technicians with the necessary support to operate and maintain the Sea King.”

The contract will provide repair and overhaul and other support services for the engines of the CH-124 Sea King fleet. A requirement for technical investigations and engineering services, logistical support services, spares procurement, and inventory management for the engines is also built into the contract. The work will take place at ACROHELIPRO Global Service’s Richmond facility.

The contract will run until the end of March 2009 and includes options for extension, ensuring maintenance and support of the Sea King engines as the Canadian Forces transition to the new maritime helicopter fleet.

Delivery of the first new CH-148 Cyclone helicopter is required to be no later than November 2008, with the remaining helicopters to be delivered at a rate of one per month thereafter.
