National Arts Centre Orchestra presents all-Schumann programme led by Pinchas Zukerman and featuring principal cello Amanda Forsyth on Oct. 2-3

Ottawa, Canada -- A glorious all-Schumann programme opens the
National Arts Centre Orchestra's Ovation Series with Music
Director Pinchas Zukerman on the podium, and principal cellist Amanda
Forsyth featured in the composer's soaring and romantic Cello
Concerto in A minor. The programme opens with the Genoveva
Overture and is completed by Schumann's Symphony No. 4 in
D minor, a landmark in the development of symphonic music for its
unprecedented cohesion and structural unity. These concerts take
place on Wednesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 3 at 20:00 in the
National Arts Centre's Southam Hall. On Saturday, October 5, the
NAC Orchestra will perform the same programme in Grant Hall at
Queen's University as guests of the Kingston Symphony.
Principal cello of the NAC Orchestra since 1999, Amanda Forsyth
also appears regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles.
Acclaimed performances have included Beethoven's Triple
Concerto, Vivaldi's Double Concerto, Debussy's Sonata No.
1, Mozart's Divertimento in E-flat major, and the Brahms Double
Concerto. Recent engagements include Le Domaine Forget, Meadowmount
Festival and the Sante Fe Chamber Music Festival. Upcoming concerts
include Chamber Music at the Y in New York, the McGill Chamber
Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic, Northwestern University School
of Music Chamber Festival and performances in Mexico City with the
Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She
is the subject of a television documentary for Bravo! entitled
Amanda Rising: The Amanda Forsyth Story.
Tickets for these Ovation Series concerts on October 2 and 3, are
on sale now at $26.50, $43.50 and $54.50, with box seats at $68.00
(GST and Facility Fee included) at the NAC Box Office (Monday to
Saturday from 10:00 to 21:00), and through Ticketmaster
(with surcharges) at 613-755-1111. Ticketmaster may also be accessed
through the NAC's web-site at www.nac-cna.ca.
Half-price tickets for students in all sections of the hall are on
sale in person at the NAC Box Office upon presentation of a valid
student ID card.
