National Arts Centre Orchestra presents all-Schumann programme led by Pinchas Zukerman and featuring principal cello Amanda Forsyth on Oct. 2-3

September 18, 2002 -

Ottawa, Canada -- A glorious all-Schumann programme opens the National Arts Centre Orchestra's Ovation Series with Music Director Pinchas Zukerman on the podium, and principal cellist Amanda Forsyth featured in the composer's soaring and romantic Cello Concerto in A minor. The programme opens with the Genoveva Overture and is completed by Schumann's Symphony No. 4 in D minor, a landmark in the development of symphonic music for its unprecedented cohesion and structural unity. These concerts take place on Wednesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 3 at 20:00 in the National Arts Centre's Southam Hall. On Saturday, October 5, the NAC Orchestra will perform the same programme in Grant Hall at Queen's University as guests of the Kingston Symphony.

Principal cello of the NAC Orchestra since 1999, Amanda Forsyth also appears regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. Acclaimed performances have included Beethoven's Triple Concerto, Vivaldi's Double Concerto, Debussy's Sonata No. 1, Mozart's Divertimento in E-flat major, and the Brahms Double Concerto. Recent engagements include Le Domaine Forget, Meadowmount Festival and the Sante Fe Chamber Music Festival. Upcoming concerts include Chamber Music at the Y in New York, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic, Northwestern University School of Music Chamber Festival and performances in Mexico City with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She is the subject of a television documentary for Bravo! entitled Amanda Rising: The Amanda Forsyth Story.
