The NAC-CBC Debut Series features New Brunswick pianist Julien Le Blanc as part of the Atlantic Scene on April 25

Ottawa, Canada -- The Debut Series, co-presented by the National
Arts Centre and CBC Radio Two, continues on Friday, April 25 with New
Brunswick pianist Julien Le Blanc in the NAC Studio at 12:00 noon. Le
Blanc is the first-ever recipient of the Emerging Artist of the Year
Award from the New Brunswick Arts Foundation in 2002. His appearance
at the NAC is also part of the NAC's Atlantic Scene, the first
in a series of biennial regional festivals to take place in the
nation's capital showcasing the best in Canadian arts and
culture from coast to coast.
Julien Le Blanc will perform Jacques Hétu's Sonate
pour piano, and two works by Francis Poulenc:
Mélancolie and 15 Improvisations pour piano.
These hour-long recitals give young Canadian musicians the
opportunity to perform at the National Arts Centre and to have their
recitals recorded and broadcast nationally on CBC Radio Two.
Admission is $2.00 with all proceeds going to the NAC Orchestra
Bursary Trust Fund. Additional donations to the Fund are greatly
appreciated.
Julien Le Blanc, from Cocagne, New Brunswick, holds a master's
degree from the Université de Montréal and an Artist
Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of
Music of Toronto. His principal teachers have been Marc Durand,
André Laplante and Leon Fleischer. Widely known as a soloist,
accompanist and chamber musician, Julien specializes in repertoire
from the romantic period and the early twentieth century. He has
received top awards in several competitions in Canada, including
first prize at the Concours musical du Cercle des
Cent-Associés in Montreal in 2000, as well as the first prize
at the Ludmilla Knezkova-Hussey International Piano Competition in
Bathurst for two consecutive years in 1994 and 1995.
Julien received second prize at the National Music Festival in
Halifax in 2000. On scholarship from the Canada Council for the Arts,
Julien is currently pursuing further studies at the Royal Academy of
Music in London with Malcolm Martineau.
Debut Series recitals take place in the NAC Studio at 12:00 noon.
