The NAC-CBC Debut Series features New Brunswick pianist Julien Le Blanc as part of the Atlantic Scene on April 25

April 22, 2003 -

Ottawa, Canada -- The Debut Series, co-presented by the National Arts Centre and CBC Radio Two, continues on Friday, April 25 with New Brunswick pianist Julien Le Blanc in the NAC Studio at 12:00 noon. Le Blanc is the first-ever recipient of the Emerging Artist of the Year Award from the New Brunswick Arts Foundation in 2002. His appearance at the NAC is also part of the NAC's Atlantic Scene, the first in a series of biennial regional festivals to take place in the nation's capital showcasing the best in Canadian arts and culture from coast to coast.

Julien Le Blanc will perform Jacques Hétu's Sonate pour piano, and two works by Francis Poulenc: Mélancolie and 15 Improvisations pour piano.

These hour-long recitals give young Canadian musicians the opportunity to perform at the National Arts Centre and to have their recitals recorded and broadcast nationally on CBC Radio Two. Admission is $2.00 with all proceeds going to the NAC Orchestra Bursary Trust Fund. Additional donations to the Fund are greatly appreciated.

Julien Le Blanc, from Cocagne, New Brunswick, holds a master's degree from the Université de Montréal and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto. His principal teachers have been Marc Durand, André Laplante and Leon Fleischer. Widely known as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician, Julien specializes in repertoire from the romantic period and the early twentieth century. He has received top awards in several competitions in Canada, including first prize at the Concours musical du Cercle des Cent-Associés in Montreal in 2000, as well as the first prize at the Ludmilla Knezkova-Hussey International Piano Competition in Bathurst for two consecutive years in 1994 and 1995.

Julien received second prize at the National Music Festival in Halifax in 2000. On scholarship from the Canada Council for the Arts, Julien is currently pursuing further studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Malcolm Martineau.

Debut Series recitals take place in the NAC Studio at 12:00 noon. Admission is $2.00 with all proceeds going to the NAC Orchestra Bursary Trust Fund. Additional donations to the Fund are greatly appreciated.
