Pinchas Zukerman leads NAC Orchestra in Bon Voyage concerts on October 28 and 29, on the eve of United States and Mexico Tour

October 21, 2003 -

Ottawa, Canada -- On Tuesday, October 28 and Wednesday, October 29 at 20:00 in the NAC's Southam Hall, Pinchas Zukerman leads the National Arts Centre Orchestra in one of the programmes that audiences will hear during the upcoming United States and Mexico Tour. This Bon Voyage concert features Rossini, Mozart, and the first look at a commissioned work by NAC Award Composer Denys Bouliane, before the Orchestra heads off to Mexico two days later.

Pinchas Zukerman opens the programme with Rossini's Overture to La Cenerentola, a perfect sample of this composer's rousing musicality. Then Maestro Zukerman, the world renowned instrumentalist, leads the Orchestra from the violin in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major,"Turkish", also featured on the NAC Orchestra's latest CBC Records ZUKERMAN-MOZART CD. This music is steeped in the qualities of the style galant, which implies elegance, grace, charm, but Mozart's ingenuity takes him beyond the usual to produce a more spacious, varied and thematically developed work.

A preview version of Denys Bouliane's commissioned piece Snow is white but water is black is next. Bouliane will join the orchestra on tour, leading a series of lectures and composition master classes. Mozart's final symphony, the "Jupiter"¸ No. 41 in C major, closes the programme.

Audiences in Monterrey, Chicago, Ithaca, and New York City will hear Zukerman and the Orchestra performing this programme. Other cities will hear one of two other programmes that feature Beethoven. All programmes include the new work by Denys Bouliane.

The United States and Mexico Tour is presented by Export Development Canada (EDC).
