The National Arts Centre helps the victims of Hurricane Juan in Atlantic Canada

October 24, 2003 -

Ottawa, Canada -- The National Arts Centre Orchestra in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross will raise funds for the people in Nova Scotia recently affected by Hurricane Juan. The NAC Orchestra will donate $2.00 from every ticket sold for the concert in the NAC's Southam Hall on Tuesday, October 28 at 20:00. There will also be donation boxes in the Main Foyer.

Music Director Pinchas Zukerman, initiated this idea saying "The people of Atlantic Canada were tremendously warm and receptive to the NAC Orchestra's Atlantic Tour last fall, and the National Arts Centre's Atlantic Scene this past spring. We built strong relationships with them. It seemed natural to me that we do what we can to help the victims of the hurricane in Nova Scotia."

"Hurricane Juan was the largest disaster to strike Nova Scotia in 40 years, affecting over 400,000 people," says John Byrne, General Manager for the Canadian Red Cross in Atlantic Canada. "The Red Cross continues to help senior citizens and other vulnerable people affected by this disaster to recover. We appreciate the generous support of the National Arts Centre towards our programs that assist people affected by this disaster. "

Pinchas Zukerman will lead the concert featuring Rossini, Mozart and a commissioned work by NAC Award Composer Denys Bouliane, before the Orchestra heads off to United States and Mexico on October 31. The program is a wonderful blend of classical and contemporary music works, and also a preview of what the NAC Orchestra will perform in the United States and Mexico in the coming weeks.

Tickets are on sale now for $27.00, $45.00, $56.00 and $58.00, with box seats for $73.00 (GST and Facility Fee included) at the NAC Box Office (Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 21:00), and through Ticketmaster (with surcharges) at 613-755-1111. Ticketmaster may also be accessed through the NAC's website at www.nac-cna.ca. Half-price tickets for students in all sections of the hall are on sale in person at the NAC Box Office upon presentation of a valid student ID card.
