Watch the Stars come out for

April 23, 2002 -

After a one-year hiatus, the AIDS Committee of Ottawa (ACO) is pleased and proud to announce a star-studded line-up for the sixth edition of "The Stage For AIDS / Les ARTS pour la vie". This year's fundraising benefit, produced by the ACO, in association with the National Arts Centre, will be presented in the NAC's Southam Hall on Monday, June 17, 2002 at 8.00 p.m.

The ACO welcomes the pharmaceutical group, GlaxoSmithKline in partnership with Shire Biochem, as the Presenting Sponsor for this annual benefit, which is now the ACO's premiere fundraising event. Ottawa's principal HIV/AIDS front-line service agency, the ACO delivers programs and services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, as well as providing education, community outreach and advocacy programs to help reduce the spread of HIV.

The ACO and the NAC are very excited about this year's line-up of top Canadian artists, who collectively make up a wonderfully diverse mix of outstanding talent, including:

The Canadian Brass - The fab five virtuosi quintet, Joe Burgstaller, Ryan Anthony, Jeff Nelsen, Gene Watts and Chuck Daellenbach;

Jimmy Rankin - Multiple East Coast Music Awards winner, and 2002 Juno nominee, this former leader of The Rankin Family is now solo with a startling roots rock sound;

O Vertigo Danse - Artistic Director, Ginette Laurin, brings an excerpt from LUNA, the latest creation of Montreal's contemporary dance company;

Carol Welsman - Internationally acclaimed jazz singer and pianist, accompanied by Ottawa-bassist, John Geggie;

Thirteen Strings - Ottawa's favourite chamber ensemble, conducted by Jean-François Rivest, and featuring NAC Orchestra principal oboe, Charles Hamann;

Michelle Wright - With over 30 major music awards, 23 top ten hits, this famed country singer has recently been dabbling with pop music.....but you haven't heard anything yet!!

Ron Sexsmith - Internationally hailed roots singer-songwriter, praised by heavyweights Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney;

Robert Michaels - Juno nominated guitarist/song writer is back by popular demand, and this time he'll sing;

Brent Bambury - CBC Radio Host of "All In A Day" will be one of the co-hosts for the evening.

We are also delighted to announce our Honorary Chair for the show this year is Ottawa's energetic and popular mayor, Bob Chiarelli.

A departure from previous years, the pre-show champagne Gala Reception will be held this year on the NAC Terrace and will be hosted by Marlen Cowpland, as well as the post-show "Meet the Artists" party, exclusively for those who have purchased the $150.00 Gala tickets. Gala tickets are ONLY available from the AIDS Committee of Ottawa by calling 238-5014

Regular tickets for The Stage For AIDS are currently on sale at the NAC box office and through TicketMaster (755-1111), for $25, $50 and $75.00.

In addition to the Presenting Sponsor, GlaxoSmith Kline and Shire Biochem, other major sponsors include: Iridium Creative Marketing + Design, CBC Radio, The Ottawa Citizen, CJOH-TV, Capital Xtra, M.O.M. Printing, Loeb, Atlas Wines, Gowling Lafleur Henderson.
