NAC co-presents two European choirs on June 9 and June 21-22

Ottawa, Canada -- The National Arts Centre is co-presenting two of
Europe's leading choirs in Ottawa in collaboration with the
Toronto International Choral Festival: Severácek on Sunday,
June 9 in association with the National Gallery of Canada; and
Allmänna Sången on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22,
in association with the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Cantata
Singers of Ottawa and the Embassy of Sweden. The choirs are in Canada
to perform as part of the Toronto International Choral Festival
entitled "THE JOY OF SINGING within the Noise of the World", which
takes place in Toronto May 31-June 22.
Severácek
Conductors: Silvie and Petr Palka
This 25-member children's choir from Liberec, Czech Republic, is
the winner of a number of international competitions including first
prize for youth choirs at the 2000 Jersey International Competition,
UK. Severácek (the name means "Northern Wind") specializes in
repertoire from renaissance to modern including folk songs from all
over the world.

Allmänna Sången
Conductor: Cecilia Rydinger Alin
Sweden's oldest university choir (founded in 1830) from Uppsala
has won titles at every international choir competition it has
participated in for the past decade. The 60-voice choir will perform
a full-length concert of sacred and secular music in honour of the
summer solstice.

the Embassy of Sweden
