Richard Garneau will co-host the Black & White Opera Soirée on Feb. 15

Ottawa, Canada -- Radio-Canada television and radio personality Richard Garneau will co-host the Black & White Opera Soirée, a joint fundraiser for the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Opera Lyra Ottawa, on Saturday, February 15, 2003. The full concert programme and dinner menu for gala guests has also been announced.

Best known as the long-time host of La soirée du hockey (Hockey Night in Canada), Richard Garneau has enjoyed a 48-year career in public broadcasting, including the coverage of a number of Olympic Games and other international sporting events. Garneau is also a classical music lover, who most recently hosted Salut Garneau, the weekday morning show on Radio-Canada's "La Chaîne culturelle".

The Valentine's Day-themed Black & White Opera Soirée concert, presented for the sixth consecutive year by Bell Canada, features soprano Anne Grimm, soprano Jackalyn Short, tenor Benjamin Butterfield and baritone Joshua Hopkins. Music Director Pinchas Zukerman leads the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Opera Lyra Ottawa Chorus is prepared by Laurence Ewashko.

The menu for the Valentine's feast awaiting those attending the pre-concert dinner has also been announced. These guests will dine on "Cupid's Catch" - a delicious seafood cocktail with a pink aïoli and winter greens - followed by "Birds in Love" - a tender young poussin filled with duck breast and exotic fruit - accompanied by a nest of colourful vegetables and layered potato heart. Dessert is a demi gianduja dome with blueberry sherbet and crispy ginger snap.

Bell Canada is presenting the Black & White Opera Soirée in association with Enbridge Gas Distribution, Scotiabank and CBC/Radio-Canada. Soirée tickets for $250 and $375 include the spectacular pre-concert dinner, prime seating for the concert itself, and a post-concert reception with the stars.
