National Arts Centre's English Theatre Educational Website goes online on World Theatre Day
March 27, 2003 -
Ottawa (Ontario) -- The National Arts Centre is celebrating World
Theatre Day by launching ArtsAlive.ca - English Theatre, an
exciting performing arts website for students, parents and teachers
and anyone interested in finding out more about what it takes to
develop a play from page to stage. ArtsAlive.ca - English
Theatre is an informative and user-friendly way to learn all
about the people and processes of Canadian English-Language
Theatre.
"ArtsAlive.ca - English Theatre uncovers the
behind-the-scenes world of professional English Canadian Theatre in a
fun and interactive way," said Peter Herrndorf, President and CEO of
the National Arts Centre. "This wonderful tool puts into practice the
NAC's ongoing commitment to develop young audiences for the
performance arts in Canada."
Marti Maraden, the National Arts Centre's English Theatre Artistic
Director added: "We are so proud of ArtsAlive.ca. What a wonderful
way for students, teachers and parents to learn more about the magic
of theatre, about the extraordinary artists working in English
Canadian Theatre, and about the painstaking, transformative journey a
play must make to be brought to the public. I hope that this site
will prove a valuable and entertaining resource tool to young people
across the country."
ArtsAlive.ca is made possible through the generous support
of the Department of Canadian Heritage and TELUS.
ArtsAlive.ca - English Theatre features fascinating video
and text interviews with Canadian playwrights, directors, actors,
theatre designers and stage managers. These include Marti Maraden, as
well as Stephen Massicotte, the Calgary-based playwright who wrote
the critically-acclaimed Mary's Wedding; stage actors Jenny
Young and Paul Rainville; set and costume designers Christina
Poddubiuk and John Pennoyer; theatre composer and sound designer Marc
Desormeaux, and stage manager Laurie Champagne.
Other features include:
Detailed information about playwriting, directing, acting, and
stage managing, designing for theatre and building sets and
costumes;
Practical writing and acting activities;
Interesting and useful resources such as a "Great Plays" reading
list, a theatre glossary, a spotlight on student creativity, and
more.
ArtsAlive.ca - English Theatre is the newest addition to
the National Arts Centre's popular performing arts education website.
The very popular ArtsAlive.ca - Music

are scheduled to go online in the coming months: ArtsAlive.ca -
