The National Arts Centre and the Canadian Film Institute present Amelia, an award winning film by Édouard Lock featuring La La La Human Steps
May 20, 2005 -
OTTAWA -- Amelia, choreographed by Édouard Lock for La La La Human Steps, took the dance world by storm in live performance. Don’t miss this one-night-only chance to see Amelia on film on Saturday, May 28 at 19:00. The 60-minute film will be screened in the auditorium of Library and Archives Canada at 395 Wellington Street. Tickets can be purchased at the door; they are $6 for CFI members, seniors, and students and $9 for non-members. Director/ choreographer Édouard Lock will be in attendance to discuss the film.
Originally conceived for the stage and brilliantly adapted for film, the multi-award winning Amelia is a rapid-fire, visually exquisite combination of form and movement. The work is set entirely within a four-sided wooden box with curved joints, designed to envelop the performers, where the camera becomes another body to manipulate, to choreograph. The result is electrifying -- dancers fly across the screen creating a tableau of visual poetry in this supremely edited cinematographic masterpiece.
“AMELIA is nothing but dance, brilliantly shot, relentlessly in your face, astonishingly fast”
Lewis Segal, Los Angeles Times
