Standing ovation for Wajdi Mouawad and Denis Marleau! Capital Critics Circle presents awards for Best French-Language Productions, 2003-04

Ottawa, Ontario -- On September 15 at the Théâtre de l’Île in Gatineau (Hull), the Capital Critics Circle the regional branch of the Canadian Theatre Critics Association (CTCA) presented its awards for the best French-language productions presented in Ottawa-Gatineau during the 200304 theatre season.
The award for Best Touring Production presented in the National Capital Region went to Incendies, written and directed by Wajdi Mouawad and premiered by the Théâtre de Quat’Sous. Incendies played at the National Arts Centre (NAC) French Theatre in October 2003.
The award for Best Direction was shared by Wajdi Mouawad and Denis Marleau for their respective stagings of the work of Anton Chekhov. Mr. Mouawad directed Les Trois Sœurs (Three Sisters), produced by the Théâtre du Trident and presented at the NAC in February 2004; while Mr. Marleau directed his own stage adaptation of Chekhov’s short story Le Moine noir (The Black Monk), coproduced by the NAC French Theatre, manège.mons, the Borderline Festival, and UBU, compagnie de création, and presented at the NAC in April‑May 2004.
The members of the Capital Critics Circle are Alvina Ruprecht (CBC Radio One), Caroline Barrière (Le Droit), Anne Michaud (Radio-Canada La première chaîne), Anick Charette (Week-end Outaouais) and Marthe Blouin (Radio-Canada La chaîne culturelle).
