1 Wing Headquarters is based in Kingston, Ont., midway between Toronto and Montreal. The oldest city in the province, it is famous for its limestone buildings and scenic waterfront.

Kingston is also the gateway to the Thousand Islands offering a mix of cultural and recreational activities. On the base and at the adjacent Royal Military College, serving and retired members and their families will find renovated recreation facilities as well as programs and services for everyone in the military community.

Unlike all other wings of the Canadian Forces, 1 Wing Headquarters is not collocated with its squadrons. The six squadrons under 1 Wing can be found across the country. 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS) is situated on Canada's largest base - Canadian Forces Base Borden, Ont. Borden has an active Military Family Resource Centre as well as many activities for the local community.

408, 430 and 438 THS, as well as 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron (HOTS) are located close to major Canadian cities - Edmonton, Quebec City, Montreal and Fredericton respectively - which offer a wide range of artistic, cultural and recreational opportunities in addition to the community programs on base.

427 THS is located at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. The area has much to offer to the outdoor enthusiasts.
